Abaribe: Let’s support Garba Shehu to travel Kaduna-Abuja road without security – Nigerians.

On Wednesday, January 29, the Nigeria polity was agog with a call for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation over failing security situation in the country. The call which was made by the lawmaker representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe, was met with both commendation and reproach from certain quarters of the polity. While some Nigerians condemned the lawmaker for making such pronouncement against the person of the president and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), others said the call for Nigeria’s number one man was long overdue. Also, in defence of the president, the presidency said just because some characters think the president should resign, then they expect him to quit. The presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, in a quick response to Abaribe’s call for President Buhari’s resignation said: “That call does not represent the opinion of the country.

Garba also described Abaribe’s call for the president’s resignation as “foolish” and “the opinion of an armchair critic, known for making stray comments”.

Garba’s statement further caused a fresh uproar on social media, with many Nigerians stating that the presidency was living in denial in regards to the reality of Nigeria’s security situation. Some Nigerians in their response to Garba statement urged the presidency to inform citizens of steps being taken to secure the lives and property of residents in the country.

Also, Nigerians said since the presidency in its claim is comfortable with the security situation in the country especially on the Abuja-Kaduna axis, Garba Shehu should be supported by all to ply the route without security as a proof that all is well with the country’s security system.
