PDP to Supreme Court: Imo people did not vote for Uzodimma, he lost the election.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not happy with the Supreme Court judgement which sacked its candidate, Emeka Ihedioha, in Imo – The PDP wonders how Ihedioha, who came fourth in the election, could become the winner suddenly – The party says with the judgement, the Supreme Court has handed its victory to someone who the people never wanted The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is at a loss concerning the ruling of the Supreme Court which, on Tuesday, January 14, dismissed the victory of Emeka Ihedioha, as governor of Imo state. The party, in its official reaction to the judgement, which favoured Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC), recalled how Ihedioha came fourth at the poll and wondered how such a person could be declared winner.
Describing it as another sad commentary on the nation’s democratic order, the party said Uzodimma “came fourth in the March 9, 2019 governorship election with just 96,458 votes” and that the PDP polled 276,404 votes.
“In fact, the PDP and indeed, most Nigerians are still at a loss as to understand the basis upon which the Supreme Court arrived at its decision,” the PDP said. The PDP lamented that the people’s collective destiny had been taken from the governor they chose and handed over to someone and a political party that the residents do not want. A statement by Kola Ologbondiyan, the national spokesperson of the party, added: “The people of Imo state are now confronted with the challenge of having a government that they cannot identify with and which cannot connect with them, having not emanated from them.”
It lamented that Ihedioha’s progress as governor of Imo state is now being jeopardised as a result of the judgement.
The party said its concern is now glaring, especially with the mournful ambience of the state since the declaration.
The PDP said though it recognises that the judgement is final, its members in the state must remain united ahead of further instructions from the headquarters. Legit.ng had reported that a seven-man panel of justices declared that Ihedioha was not duly elected and sent him packing. The apex court declared Hope Uzodimma as the authentic winner of the 2019 governorship election in the state.
